This week we have been
exploring what a number means. We built a number line showing what each number
looks like using linking cubes.
We noticed that once we get to the number 10,
it's too many and we group them together. Those tricky teens we came up with a
nickname to remember how write them. They are called 'teny' just like the other
groups of tens to follow the same pattern. For example, teny-seven is really
17. It's silly but it helps us remember those tricky teens.
In the next while in math, we
are going to explore how to record numbers neatly following proper formation.
We are also going to represent numbers in many ways (ie. number, number word, objects, place value chart, tens frames)!
Watch for all our new
learning!
