Our class took a little survey about their thoughts and feelings about our math class. They shared their ideas with these 5 statements:
I like math.
I am good at math.
I can answer challenging math questions.
I ask for help when I am stuck in math.
I can help others when they need it in math.
Students were able to respond with:
Yes (happy face)
Sometimes (so so face)
Worried (worrid face)
No (sad face)
From this, we learned a lot about students perspective in our math class. We are looking for a safe, learning environment where it is ok to make mistakes, because mistakes mean you are trying. From our survey, we had a little chat about any misconceptions and then created a poster together to post on our math wall about what a 'happy math class' looks like, sounds like and feels like.
From here, we will continue to build a community of math learners in a positive learning environment!
