Graphing 101

Students have been learning to collect data and ‘read’ the data in different ways. As a class, we collected some data about the healthy foods in our lunch (which also really helped to solidify our learning in healthy class with Ms. Carter). We sorted our lunches first into healthy and unhealthy foods and then sorted our healthy foods into the food groups. We followed up by creating a class tally chart of all the healthy foods.

Our survey question: What healthy foods are in your lunch?
Here’s our tally chart of our data:

Then we took our tally chart and turned it into a ‘Just Right’ bar graph with all the important parts.

After we finished working really hard on creating our bar graph, we ‘read’ our graph to make some important observations:

This week, we will be reading lots of different graphs and seeing what we can determine about the data. Soon, we will get to create our own survey question and collect data from our friends.
