Monday, November 16, 2020 - Day 3

South Perth Centennial Public School is closed today due to a hydro outage. Hope everyone is safe and sound! 

Here are today's reminders...

Bullying Awareness Week - we will be learning about what bullying is and strategies for dealing with this. This will also be the introduction to our Media unit and will be making posters with Bullying Awareness as the theme to place around the school. 

Reminders:

• Planner Signed 
• Check Mailbags - please check backpacks for any items that came home today. You are welcome to reuse that plastic bag and leave in their backpack. 
• Stocking Stuffer Fundraising Orders Due Today

Language:

• Snuggle Up & Read (SUR) - please remember to read and complete the reading log online in your child's Google Classroom. Turn in/submit when you have completed the two page (20 books) log. A prize and a new log will be sent. 
• Sight Word Rings (SW Ring) - students have their own personalized sight word ring to work on regularly for a max of 2 mins per day. As students build word recognition, check off the back of the word. Once your child has reached 10 checkmarks, remove this 'mastered' word. Once all words have been 'mastered' on the ring, send a note in the planner for a new set of words to be sent home. This work is to keep at home and store in that Snuggle Up & Read black folder for home use.
• Sound Card Rings (SC Ring) - Students have their personalized sound card rings. Please see the information letter that came home with them. These will be similar to how the sight word rings work with a couple minutes a day to learn these letter sounds. Once all sounds on the ring have been 'mastered' (having the 10 checkmarks), please send a note in the planner for a new set of cards to be sent home. This work is to keep at home and store in that Snuggle Up & Read black folder for home use.  
• Shared Reading Home Activity Due Today - Students received their Shared Reading task on Friday in their Google Classroom account. This is to be submitted online in their account for review.  Please remember to turn in the assignment on Google Classroom. 
• Spelling Words Home Tomorrow - Students will bring home their spelling test from last week and bringing home their new words for this week. Please practice these words throughout the week and we will complete a spelling test of these six words on Friday.

If you are looking for some work to keep busy today (and have hydro of course):

• Math IXL - Patterning (noted with the yellow star for student recommended) 
• Grade 1 Section U 1-9
• Grade 2 Section D 1-7
• Language: Writing - Brainstorm some of your super sentence ideas for tomorrow's writing about your weekend. Feel free to bring to school to help you with your writing tomorrow. 
• Language: Reading - Continue to read and record on your Snuggle Up & Read chart. 
• Cultivating Character - Brainstorm a list of ideas of how to make other people smile by doing kind deeds. Bring to school tomorrow to contribute to our list from World Kindness Day!
