We sure do love our Estimate Jar activity! Today, we did our April jar because we missed it somehow on Friday! April flew by!
Each student wrote down their estimate on their white board of how many chocolate eggs were in the jar.
We decided today we would count by 5's because we know counting by ones takes us a long time! Ms. King is really good at subitizing 5 eggs so it went fast!
Then for the big moment...we all took a turn going around the class and sharing our estimate. We compared numbers and how far away our estimate was from the actual total we had of the chocolate eggs.
Victoria was our lucky winner!!! She was only 16 away from the 72 treats we had in total! She knew our tradition is to share the treats with everyone in the class. However, we decided that we would see about how to make 20 equal groups to introduce some dividing skills! It worked out well and students may have brought home their treats (if they didn't eat them out of their lunch today)! Victoria also got to take over the leftovers! Sweet deal! Some sweet math on a Monday morning!
