Student Transportation Cancellation

Good morning,

Buses are cancelled today to the school. The school is still open for those that can arrive safely for regular drop off at 8:50am and pick up at 3:15pm. Please stay safe with whatever decision you need to make for your family today.

Reminders, homework and review work (for those not able to attend in person learning) are included below and will be posted to our Homework & Reminders page on the blog for those students that will not be at school, as mandated by the school board for at home learning. However, the blog will have the most current information. I will be able to answer any further questions about any work for absent students later in the day.

Snuggle Up & Read - Students are asked to read a book at their challenge level at home with an expert reader. Remember to record your nightly reading on the enclosed white reading log. This home reading should be about 10-15 minutes max as regularly as possible. Once the sheet is full, Please keep in your child's mailbag to go back and forth each day. Folders will be checked at the end of each week.

Thursday, March 6, 2025 - Day 2

  • Planner Signed - please review the contents of the planner and initial each day after reading. Please return to school each day in the blue mailbag.

  • Snuggle Up & Read - Students are asked to read a book at their challenge level at home with an expert reader. Remember to record your nightly reading on the enclosed white reading log. This home reading should be about 10-15 minutes max as regularly as possible. Once the sheet is full, Please keep in your child's mailbag to go back and forth each day. Folders will be checked at the end of each week. please write a note in your child's planner to let me know they are ready for a new sheet & a Desk Pet. Happy Reading!
  • Word Ring - Students have brought home their word ring of 5 high frequency words they are learning in their Snuggle Up & Read folder. Check off on the back of each of the words they know instantly but leave blank if they need support/time to decode the word. Once ALL words on the ring have 10 checkmarks, please write a note in the planner to let me know they are ready for new words.
  • Letter Sound (LS) Ring - Students are bringing home their letter sounds they are learning. Check off on the back of each of the letter sound cards they know instantly but leave blank if they need support/time on the sound. Once ALL letter sound cards on the ring have 10 checkmarks, please write a note in the planner to let me know they are ready for new letter sounds.
  • Spelling Bee (Quiz) Tomorrow - Students brought home 5 words to practice at the beginning of the week and learn how to write with automaticity. Students will do a little spelling bee (quiz) tomorrow to see if they have mastered their words instead.
  • **Home Learning IXL English (Login and password are in the back of the planner) - There have been activities assigned and now listed in the recommended English section of IXL for students to complete. Please complete these so each activity within each section has a little badge at the end of the activities within each section 80-100 score. Approx: 20 minutes (no need to get caught up on all)
  • **Home Learning Writing - Students can write for approximately 25 minutes (aiming for about 3-4 super sentences for Grade 1 and about 6-8 super sentences for Grade 2) about what they did on their snow day. Remember to check each sentence for COPPSS before moving on to the next sentence. Bring your writing to school tomorrow and trade for some smiles for the extra writing practice!
Math:
  • Mental Math Quiz Tomorrow - Students have been learning about one more, one less, two more, two less, zero facts, wipe out, counting on, counting back, make ten, doubles and subtracting neighbours as our new strategy. Students will put their practice to a little quiz tomorrow with what we are calling a weekly Mental Math Quiz. The test will come home on Monday to review and make corrections at home and be due on Tuesday.
  • **Home Learning IXL Math (Login and password are in the back of the planner) - There have been activities assigned and now listed in the recommended Math section of IXL for students to complete. Please complete these so each activity within each section has a little badge at the end of the activities within each section 80-100 score. Approx: 20 minutes (no need to get caught up on all)

We understand there are many different situations for different families, so please do as your family needs to do with this change in schedule. There will be some time provided tomorrow for catching up on missed review work for those absent students today.

Your cooperation, patience and flexibility is appreciated when days like this are presented and are out of both of our control.

Take care,
