We are learning more addition and subtraction mental math strategies!! We have been reviewing the 8 we have learned up so far. A collection of these came home previously and sending home a new sheet to add to it. The collection is also posted below for reference. Please use these at home to help with our math work that comes home and to practice these strategies when you get a chance to build our skills of our math facts! Students are loving the math challenges that are presented and should be proud of all they are learning!
This week we are diving into a one that we have been practicing with materials throughout the term and now time to make it those mental math facts.
Following, we will focus on learning our doubles facts! This one will really start to challenge our memory but we have some tricks and visual images that help us remember these facts too after we prove them with our materials.
Count On and Count Back are really if no other strategy is available but still need a plan B!
Again, we will be focusing on one per week, reviewing all strategies on Thursday and then on Fridays we will have our 5 question quiz to see how we are doing as we continue to learn and apply these strategies.
Really proud of their work to date to apply these different strategies and the beginning of understanding of addition and subtraction. We need this base to be able to apply to more complex math problems and problem solving questions. We are becoming math whizzes!!
