Valentine's Day in Grade 1/2

We have enjoyed some good fiction stories about Valentine's Day this week. We have also read a non-fiction book about Valentine's Day. Here are some facts that we have learned.

* I didn't know that Valentine's Day started in Ancient Rome. (Ryan)
* I didn't know that it may have started on the 15th of February with a festival called Lupercalia. The night before, every boy would draw a girl's name to be their partner for the festival. (Saskia)
* I didn't know there was a boy named Valentine and he didn't obey the rules. He married people even when the ruler of Rome said people could not get married. (Bridget)
* I didn't know that you would say I Love You in Spanish by saying Te Amo. (Izzy)
* I didn't know how they said I Love You in French. (Jessica)
* I didn't know people had heart shaped balloons. (Matthew)
* You see hearts on Valentine's Day as a symbol. (Ben)

We have had lots of Valentine activities all week and topped it off today with even more! We have had a day full of smiles and our hearts are full!
